Dormer Pramet introduced a new range of TNGX16 inserts and STN16 cutters with improved cost per edge, to expand its offer for true 90° shoulder milling in various materials. The larger double-sided inserts have six-cutting edges, which allows for greater depths of cut (up to 10mm) and higher feed compared to its existing TNGX10 range. The assortment enhances the connection between passes and creates an excellent surface quality, by offering low cutting resistance. This force reduction leads to quiet and smooth machining for additional process security.
Positive geometry and a through coolant boost chip evacuation in a variety of materials, including steels, stainless steels, cast iron, and non-ferrous metals. The TNGX16 assortment is available in radii ranging from 0.4 - 1.6mm and alongside a wide range of grades. It is backed by three geometries, F, M and FA. F is the first choice for low to medium carbon content steel and its high positive geometry with narrow peripheral land makes it suitable for light to medium machining. The M geometry is for machining carbon steel, stainless steel, and cast iron, as well as its positive geometry with medium T-land, makes it ideal for light to medium machining. FA is a high positive geometry with a sharp cutting edge that is suitable for non-ferrous metals, and its polished insert face reduces sticking of machined material.
Meanwhile, as compared to the original assortment the STN16 tool holders provide a higher number of teeth for greater productivity. Its differential pitch allows for smooth machining in diameters greater than 50mm. The cutter is made of coated tool steel for improved corrosion resistance and reduced friction, and it features large and strong clamping screws for easier handling and stability. A precision machined pocket design allows performance repeatability and security.
