Paul Horn’s New Tool Geometries for Broaching Square Holes

Paul Horn GmbH extends its broaching product selection with the addition of different sized N105, N110 and N117 systems tool geometries for broaching varied square holes. The N105 and N110 systems are ideal for WAF sizes from 4 - 13 mm (0.157"-0.512"), and N117 system for WAF sizes from 13 - 22 mm (0.512"-0.866"). The new tool holders allow coolant to flow via insert seat as well as to the side of it for optimized cooling during broaching.

In addition, the geometries have been updated for use in broaching units and for turret broaching. The focused cooling reduces tool wear, thus increasing the tool life and improving the quality of the workpiece surface. This is achieved due to the internal coolant supply, where the cooling is ensured in the contact zone even when cutting deep grooves. Furthermore, the stronger flushing action boosts chip removal and minimizes the risk of chip build-up.

The users have several advantages by being able to carry out broaching on the CNC machines. Grooves can be cut in a workpiece in a single clamping without re-clamping the workpiece. This broaching process allows geometries of every kind to be produced, from gears, keyways, squares, and helical grooves to curved grooves. It offers an economic alternative to conventional broaching since it can be used on almost any CNC lathe.
