Walter AG presents a cutting tool material, Tiger·tec® Gold PVD grade WSP45G, for milling and drilling. It has a unique TiAlN-Al2O3 multilayer which makes the WSP45G both hard and tough thus making it tremendously resistant to abrasive wear as well as to high temperature. A special mechanical post-treatment improves hairline crack performance and protects the cutting edge against micro-spalling.
The light gold-coloured top coat of the multilayer system simplifies to detect wear and thereby improves process reliability. Reliably identified unused cutting edges makes it possible to exhaust the full potential of the indexable insert. Moreover, it is compatible with Xtra·tec® XT, Walter BLAXX and M4000 milling cutters, in addition it can also be used in company's indexable insert drills such as the D4120.
The latest Tiger·tec Gold PVD grades’ potential fields of application include demanding machining tasks (such as for ISO P steels, but also for difficult-to-cut materials from the ISO S and M material groups), tricky conditions and interrupted cuts. In the case of milling, these challenges could also be long overhangs or delicate clamping arrangements whereas inclined entries and exits for drilling. The new PVD grade achieves performance improvements of up to 75% depending on the material and application.
The WSP45G grade is an ideal problem solver and can be used universally, like for turbochargers in cast steel, fasteners and chassis parts in titanium or components in nickel-based alloys as encountered in the automotive, energy and aerospace industries.
