YAMAWA MH-Series Taps for Machining Medium-Hardness Carbon Steel

Cutting tools expert, YAMAWA MFG Co Ltd presents MH series products ‘MHSP, MHSL, MHRZ, MHCDS’, which demonstrates outstanding performance in processing internal threads and center holes in materials that have both strength and toughness. These range of products are the most suitable for processing medium-hardness carbon steel characterized as carbon steel and alloy steel for machine structures with material code S43C~S55C and SCM respectively, with 20~35 HRC hardness. The structures find application in the construction industry and extensively in the automotive sector for the need of lighter and stronger parts such as Camshaft, Connecting rod, Crankshaft, Differential gear, Tie rod end, and Hub bearing.

Spiral fluted taps for blind hole, MHSP is designed for stable machining and resolve wear issues on the cutting edge or tap’s damage by chip jamming, an easy occurrence with general purpose taps when tapping blind holes in heat-treated parts. Its recommended tapping speed is 5 to 30m/min for medium and high steel carbon, and 5-15m/min for medium hardness carbon steel. Spiral fluted taps for through hole, MHSL is developed to offer strength, rigidity, and durability in through hole tapping of heat-treated medium hardness carbon steel, by preventing wear of tabs, chipped edges, and poor surface finish of internal thread. It adopts optimum coating and has a base material with excellent durability and wear resistance, as well as chip evacuation is forward through the hole. Its recommended tapping speed is 10-20m/min.

Roll taps, MHRZ is meant for stable tapping in high tapping torque, which occurs when roll form tapping on heat treatment material of 25 HRC or more. Its recommended tapping speed is 10 to 20m/min for medium hardness carbon steel and alloy steel. Center drills, MDCDS have been developed to combat runout problems at high speed and feeds. Its suggested machining speed is 22-30m/min for medium hardness carbon steel and alloy steel feed rate is 0.1 to 0.2mm/revolution. Highly accurate centre holes can be machined with its single-ended shape and a special cutting-edge design.
